State Department Public Liason
Connect with the Office of Public Liaison at the U.S. Department of State!
Are you interested in hosting a speaker from the U.S. Department of State? The Department of State's Office of Public Liaison conducts outreach to domestic audiences by connecting the Department of State to the American public. The office engages students, educators, civil society organizations, diaspora groups, and more to learn about U.S. foreign policy issues and priorities through briefings, conferences, and other virtual events. Please reach out to Irina Karmanova at KarmanovaI@state.gov to organize a Zoom or WebEx session for your community - this is a great opportunity to speak directly with a State Department policy expert and learn more about a specific global topic. Previous sessions have focused on topics such as US-China relations; Human Trafficking; Human Rights; Global Women’s Issues; Policy in Venezuela; Climate Change; and cultural norms and travel safety and security.

The Office of Public Liaison also organizes and coordinates the U.S. Department of State's annual Citizen Diplomacy Award. Each year, Sister Cities International chapters, Global Ties chapters, and the Alliance for International Exchange send in nominations of outstanding individuals or organizations to be considered for the award. Launched in 2017, the award celebrates the significant, beneficial contributions of U.S. citizens and organizations to furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives and strengthening relationships around the world. Award-winning “citizen diplomats” exhibit leadership in generating impactful, long-term support for U.S. foreign policy and public diplomacy objectives. Previous winners include Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities International Inc., Council Bluffs Sister Cities Association (CBSCA), Ms. Elsa Nicolovius, and Mr. Mohamed Amin Ahmed. Submit a nomination for the 2021 award by August 20, 2021.
